Why your raw data file may miss some genetic variants

The genetic testing companies such as 23andMe, Ancestry or MyHeritage use Illumina HumanOmniExpress format chip for the analysis. It’s a very popular approach for genotyping but, like every methodology, it has pros and cons.

That’s why each customer of 23andMe, Ancestry or My Heritage has a unique set of genotyped SNPs. If you need to know the exact genetic variant, you should test it by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Using medical laboratories for disease diagnosis is common.


The selection of scientifically reliable SNPs

MyWayDNA takes into account genetic variations that have very low p-value, a property that indicates high reliability of scientific data. The lower the p- values, the stronger the association between genetic variation and analyzed trait. The threshold value for the SNPs we analyze is 10^-6. Due to the insufficiently proven significance, we do not take into account all higher values ​​of the p-value in the bioinformatics analysis.
